Join us at a breakfast event hosted by Maine Real Estate & Development Association (MEREDA) on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 from 7:30 – 9:00 AM at the Hilton Garden Inn in Bangor as our panelists discuss the future of development in the Bangor Region.
The Bangor region has been at the hub of significant change in the last 10 years. As the service center for a large portion of northern and eastern Maine, Bangor has the privilege of serving as an economic engine. But as the global economic landscape has changed, Bangor’s economic development strategy and the planning to carry it out has had to adapt. This workshop is a chance to hear firsthand from City and regional leadership about the Bangor region’s new development vision.
The increasing importance of public/private partnerships in development and limited government funding has created an atmosphere where communities must be creative and collaborative to build successful projects. Bangor and the region are invested in a collaborative, asset-based planning model under groups such as Mobilize Eastern Maine. Communities can no longer afford to be strictly competitive and perceive economic development as a zero sum game. Building partnerships and establishing stable and predictable municipal and regional environments for investment will be the key to attracting development projects.
During this workshop, you will hear both the City and regional perspectives on the future of development efforts in the area. Learn about the unique public/private collaborations already taking place to improve the development process and attract investors to the region. The presenters also wish to hear from the real estate and development community regarding best practices for business attraction and transactions in today’s economy.
The panel discussion will be moderated by Andrew Hamilton of Eaton Peabody, who has more than 25 years’ experience in general environmental counseling and regulatory compliance, natural resource permitting, and land use permitting.
